Transmission Rattle

When I idle or go up hills I can hear a transmission rattle. (Automatic Transmission) Is this a problem or a common thing for my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport?

Its more than likely the crossbar for the transfercase shifter, I loosened the bolts on the cross shaft, just a few turns, so it floats, I tried makeing shims out of hose but this seems to work the best.

there are 2 small bolts about 10mm, where the shaft runs in to the bracket on the tunnel, just loosen them a few turns so the shaft ahs some give, don't remove them, the rust on the bolts will hold them so they wont back out, anymore.

I did the ones on my XJ a few months ago the rattel was driveing me nuts...

In addition to the previous, also check your exhaust, and make sure it is not rattling against your crossmember. Mine is, and is making the same sound as youre describing.

That, and give your CAT a rap with a soft hammer to make sure the catalyst hasn't broken up and is rattling.
