Transmission Cooler Install

Does anyone have any good write-ups on installing a trans cooler? I'm pretty sure I know what i'm doing, but its always nice to have that extra bit of confidence!

Also, what kind of transmission cooler are you guys using and where'd you get it? Im guessing summit is probably going to have the cheapest prices..

I noticed on the jeepin.com write up, it said about which line to run the cooler though in relation to where you lived. Since I live in PA and we have been known to get some pretty cold winters, which radiator line would be best to tap into, the return or the feed?

Hello fellow pittsburgher. I just put a tranny cooler in today. I got a Hayden max cool 11 x 11 x 3/4" at pepboys and some 3/8 double sided barbed fittings like jason mentioned and installed in the same way he did. The cooler I got is a little bigger than the one he uses (I think his was 7 1/2 wide).

I didn't remove my entire front clip, just loosened the one side enough to slide the cooler in. Besides, I started to remove one of the bolts on the passenger side and a bolt broke off! I don't know what it is about that side of my jeep and rusted bolts. Anyway, I just used the zip tie things that come with the kit. I had to loosen the fan shroud to get them on. The cooler actually sits on the crossmember and is just held in place with the zip ties. I don't see a problem with it moving so I didn't make any extra brackets for it. Probably took me an hour to do the whole thing and it took a entire quart of tranny fluid to get me back to full on the stick.

I'm going on a trip with my club tomorrow, so I'll be throwing some pics up soon.

If you bypass the heat exchanger in the radiator you can use it to heat water on the trail. Non-potable of course.

I suppose it would be near boiling. That would be a good way to take a hot shower if you were camping. I even have a wort chiller (beer brewing thing) that could be used as a secondary heat exchanger to heat potable water. Now you're putting ideas in my head.

I live between Michigan and Minnesota. I plan on splitting and valving the lines so that I can bypass the aux cooler during the winter.
