Transfer case and Tranny

i have a 96 jeep cherokee sport has 151k on the dash i had bought it with a bad transfer case when i switch it into 4h it will go in but when i put it into first gear and let off the clutch it dosent go anywhere and it grinds makes loud noise so im asuming its done with? Didnt know if anyone had any idea on how hard it was to replace/ where to find a new one that i could use?
I also had a question about my tranny, i have 33 inch tires with a 4.5 inch lift and it still has the stock tranny in it. the reverse grinds sometimes when i put it into it but it still works, all the other gears work fine without any slipping. i wanted to know if the lift and or tires was gonna make the tranny blow or how long and what to expect from leaving the stock one on it?
Thanks for any help really appricate it

I'd be leaning towards t-case linkage being out of adjustment. If the t-case linkage is out of adjustment and it's not actually engaging fully (aka halfway tween N and 4 HI) it will do the same as you're describing. When I replaced my t-case I thought I'd start off with it in N. I was surprised that the Jeep wouldn't move with the t-case in N. Who knew??

Having a 4.5" lift may affect your linkage...
