trans problem / trans swap ?

i've got a 90 with the aw4 trans (comfort/power switch) . what all is involved in swaping to a 91-up trans (no- switch) ?

or someone tell me whats up with my trans .

today wheelin it started , it works great till you get into a hard pull then it just starts stalling the converter . it does it in overdrive and drive . but if you pull it into low it starts pulling just like it should , then you can shift to drive and it works fine till you get to a hard pull . it doesn't really seem to be slipping . more like the conveters got a huge stall . (it still pulls) just not fast .

trans gone ?
solinoid problem ?
something else ?

i can get a 94 model trans/t-case for dirt cheap. if ya'll think its the trans going south i'll try the swap . if its not too hard .

ok ,

try to climb a hill in drive . it pulls but acts like it has a huge stall conveter in it (or sliping ). but , then you can pull it into 1st gear and it takes off just as it should .

but riding along the trails you can use drive or overdrive and it acts fine till you get it in a hard pull again . you down shift it and up shift it its ok .

now i drove it back to the trailer from riding and it seemed to work fine . in overdrive . had all 4 gears and shifted right .

also fluid does not really smell burnt . or look burnt .

hope this explans it a little better .
