Tranny stuck in neutral!
Today as I was making a left turn I shifted into 2nd and it wouldn't go, so I tried to go back into first and then to second but it wouldn't go in either, then I pulled over, pulled the parking brake and held the clutch in and tried to put it in any gear. It wouldn't go into anything, stuck in neutral. So I had my friend tow it to his shop and he's gonna look at it tommorow. Does anyone know what could cause this? I've heard of getting stuck IN a gear but not OUT of gear. And if it is a problem that requires a new transmission is there anything special I should shoot for? By the time I finish my buildup it'll be putting out over 300Hp but I don't know if the 5 speed can handle that. Let me know please.

Well, it could just be a pressure plate problem with the clutch, but i'm no expert, was there fluid in the cluth master cylinder?

My guess is the clutch went out on you. Same thing happened to me, except I was drivin my moms Killed In Action (KIA) Sephia
stupid cars cant hold a clutch worth crap. But anyways I shifted out of 1st and tried to get into 2nd and no dice. I rolled to a stop, tried to shift, and no dice. The "nice" cop pulled over and rammed me to get me down the hill out of the main traffic and the dent is still there on the back bumper. Also he didnt realize that you couldnt drive when the clutch was out. idiot. Sorry off topic, but yeah, my guess is the clutch went out. Good Luck

what you describe sounds exactly like low tire pressure. get a good bike pump, one with a little tire pressure guage on it.

I checked and there was plenty of fluid, also, what's with the comment on low tire pressure? I'm still waiting to find out what it is but I had a new clutch, master, and slave cylinders put in not 5000 miles ago.

did you check the tire pressure? start with the simplest thing first. When I saw oil dribbling out the bottom of my rig, I didnt just assume there something wrong with my engine. I started simple by checking the screws holding the license plate on the rear hatch. I saw that they were a little loose, so I gave them a few turns with my screwdriver- problem solved! No more oil has ever come out of the bottom of the engine.

Loose Screws
Did you check for loose screws anywhere else?

It sounds like either the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder went bad. When you push the clutch pedal down it's not releasing the clutch. Try checking the clutch master cylinder and see if there is enough fluid in it. If it went dry it sucked air in and you will have to fill it back up and bleed it out down at the slave cylinder until all the air is out of the system. It's a hydraulic clutch. The master cylinder just takes regular brake fluid. The clutch master cylinder is mounted on the firewall farthest to the drivers side beside the brake master cylinder and brake booster.

You can always get a new Jeep and use that one as a sled....needs a large number of adjoining hills.

I just talked to my friend at the shop and he's already dropped the transmission, neither the input or the output turns at all, not even a little bit of play, he thinks it's a busted gear, regardless, is there anything special I should look for in a rebuilt? Or a different tranny?
