Trackbar mods
I'm currently running a pro comp trackbar(I know at the time I didn't know any better). I was sitting at 4.5''but not I've boosted it up to 6-6.5'' of lift. I thought the trackbar would be long enough. Well I misjudged a little. And as of now my finances has went to **** so the thought of buying a new one is out of the question.
My thought is to cut the existing one in half and slide another pipe over it. (making sure to sleeve it as long as possible on both sides) Weld it up and call it good enough for now. I know its doable but I don't know how thick of tube to use. And another thing I do have some decent guage black pipe that would fit it perfectly. I know its strong, I use it as a cheater pipe. But is black pipe useable? Any help would be appreciated. By the way I only need to extend the bar maybe 1 1/2".

Personally I would:
1. Lower back down to 4.5" of lift and wait for 6" or more when the funds are available. 2. Buy a aftermarket mount and have that welded on or fab your own that will allow an extension on teh mount itself to make the one you have work. 3. Drill out the stock trac bar mount about 1" or a hair less and just deal with the axle shift.

As stated, finances are shot. The Iron Rock HD double sheer bar is the one I'm looking at.
Dropping the lift back down would cost more money as the rear shackles were pretty bad. I would have to get another set to drop it down. Appreciate the help guys. For what its worth I'm cutting the bar slugging it and then sleeving it to help with strength. THis is just to keep me mobile for the time being, as soon as finances work themselves out I will be replacing it. |

a) use DOM 4130 NOT balck pipe, as it is an inferior steel alloy
b) if you are not able to trust your life and anyone who rides in your jeep's life to your welding, have a fab shop weld it (at least finish, you can tack then bring it to them) c) i have sleeved before, i would suggest .25 wall dom tube (not pipe, there is a BIG difference) d) the amount of overlap doesn't matter AT ALL. the weld carries absolutely all of the stress. this isn't a brazed joint, overlap will only help you to keep it straight when you tack it up.
