aight well i know alot on this subject because......
![]() ![]() my sister just bought an 07 FJ with rear locker, took it to the beach and mountains for some fun. Its an awesome truck and very smooth, but i wouldnt compare it to an XJ, it high centers easily and the approach angles are horrible, but on the beach it really is amazing ride and hill climbs it dominates

Well considering the cost of an FJ, you could buy 2 XJ's and lift, lock and mod them for the price of that one FJ. Dont get me wrong but I personally am not going to spend 30k + to take a vehichle out and scratch and dent it up offroading. Then factor in the price of setting it up the way you want it with a lift and tires etc. and you are in really deep then!

stock for stock, there are a lot of SUVs that would dominate XJs.
with that being said, you can buy a lot of very nice XJs for 4-5 grand, and take the 20-30 thousand you saved, and well..dominate |

I would say, in the long run, they can't be compared. The mere simplicity of the XJ will give it a huge advantage. A new vehicle is chock full of sophisticated electronics, and are not built to last. After a couple years of water crossing and mud, that FJ will not be a reliable vehicle. As nice as it rides new, imagine it after a few years of beatings. With all the moving parts under that thing it won't sound too nice. It would be more expensive to maintain. I do like how they look though.
I really don't see one being able to easily follow an XJ. They don't look like they have much ground clearance. And the approach and departure angles aren't to great. I say go on a few rocky trails and see who comes away with less body damage. And the FJ looks like it has some bad blind spots.

Hmm good point guys... I was reading that they do have front and rear lockers.. If not front they do have rear... Thats also a plus.. and yes I woud say that im scared of the electrical damage from water crossing.. But Im saying they do look bad ***.

They are cool looking. We will have to see how they hold up long term. i find it hard to believe that anything they make today will last as long as our old XJ's. Things just aren't made the same. I have a 2003 trailblazer that i wouldn't dare take to the dirt. The suspension components and all that stuff look frail and underbuilt compared to our jeep. And far too much electronics. Now show me one with 200,000 miles on it and I might change my mind.

That would be a cool if the wiring were in the roof. Does it have IFS front and rear or what?

Is this thread for real?
![]() In my opinion, it looks like a full size Element: ![]() ![]() By the way, the rear locker in the FJ is a joke. Go to an FJ forum that doesn't kiss Yota *** and you'll see that the locker blows up in parking lots, let alone off-road. Secondly, no approach angle, no clearance, too heavy, too wide and bulky for tight trails, cheaply made yet expensive body panels/bumpers, poor recovery point placements, no flex (even with lift) and did I mention it's sluggish and has suck gearing? I can continue for hours. By the way, I love the old chopped Yota pickups and Landcruisers (early 90s and earlier). I just get tired of seeing people compare a luxury vehicle to a Jeep. Kind of like comparing a Beretta to a Derringer. Last edited by PhatJeeps; 01-22-2007 at 11:59 PM.. |
