tow points? ? ? 2000xj
my 2000 xj doesn't have any hooks, front or rear, that a tow rope can attach to. firstly, thats dumb. moving on...
where is a good place to attach a tow rope's hooks if i need to help pull someone, or i need to be rescued? i can't even find a good place to attach to. this seems a bit silly to me. do i really need to spend big bucks for tow hooks or a rock bumper? thanks

big bucks, naw.. Just get a Class III receiver for the rear (under $100.00) and some hooks with brackets for up front. (around $75.00) I got these and have been very happy with them. http://rustysoffroad.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=rustys&Product _Code=XJ-TH&Category_Code=rec_hit

You're right. It's dumb that the Cherokee doesn't come stock with tow points, but it doesn't. So, there is no good place to hook a tow strap on a stock Cherokee.
Before you go off-roading, and before you try to pull someone out or have them pull you out, the one thing that you absolutely MUST do is get proper tow points! This means either buying brackets and hooks, such as those from Custom 4x4, or mounting a hitch receiver front, rear, or both. |

but if you did, and it got stuck, at least you could get it out!
so there are no good makeshift emergency points? leaf spring piviots? sway bars? muffler? chrome grill? door handles? antenna?

So yes, there are stock/factory tow hooks, but they're not standard features. ![]()

The kits from Rusty's and C4x4 are basically HD copies of the OEM brackets.

I have ONE time wrapped a strap around my front axcel. I was not really stuck or buried yet. No snaching, just a gentle tug! Gotta learn when you can't get out before you get to bottomed out!
I have a DrawTite front hitch coming my way! Bring on the MUD!

If you're going to get front tow hooks go with www.custom4x4fabrication.com, don't get rusty's even though they're a little cheaper. Do a search and you'll see that a lot of people complain of Rusty's hooks bending or breaking. You can also get a front receiver for around $125.

Before I had any points, we would slap a hook in a nice available hole in the frame-rail.
It worked.... didn't like it at all, but that's the price you pay when you don't have any points front and back. Best thing to do is to just pay that ~$200 and have safe tow points front and rear, it'll def. be worth it in the long run!

I've never heard of Rusty's hooks bending or breaking.. If you can, please post some links of this information. I've been pretty buried (not hard to do when I was all stock) and have been pulled out by these hooks many times. I haven't had any problems with them.....
