Totalled!

After all of the work I'd done and the CO2 cooling system I installed three days ago I killed my Jeep! I rearended a public bus at the stop and my Jeep was no match for 7 tons of steel. The damage doesn't look significant, radiator and fans, power steering pump, but the entire chassis is about 6 inches shorter now. My windshield is almost completely vertical. I was pulled from accident and I noticed that the steering wheel was bent from my chest. My seatbelt stopped me from hitting the wheel but the wheel came into me! If anyone has a use for a dead XJ in the Denver metro area let me know. I'm taking some parts off, transmission, intake mods, CO2 system, methanol injection. Also, I think a thread of dead XJ's would make a great addition to the board. When I get mine back from the insurance company I'll post some pics.

I might be the sinister one in the bunch but I would love to see some pictures of that accident. I know that sounds bad, but I'll bet it would be an interesting picture.

Glad that you made out ok, and that you had insurance, double ++

funny you should ask about the drivers fender. That is the single most damaged piece, it's still attatched but only because the tire is holding it their. I couldn't get any pictures today when I went to the tow lot, they wouldn't let me, but I think I'm gonna make it into a nice trail rig because it looks very repairable. Their is no damage to the steering components or the drivetrain at all. The motor and mounts are fine, and my dad, the idiot he is, cranked it once and, with no serpentine belt, and no radiator, it started on the first try and then he cut the power. The paramedics and the police and the insurance agent all say it's totalled but it looks like about $1500 or so to have a shop get it in top shape. If I did everything myself I could do it for under $500. I just need to get a new front end from the junkyard. The readiator is the only visibly broken component as it has a nice crack in it. I'll see when I can get some pictures. Should be by Sunday.

My wife's gone to more wrecks than I have but we both agree we'd rather be in the XJ. She had a nasty one the other day with a KJ... I know it says Jeep on the back but you won't catch me driving one of them! She took that kid lights and sirens to the hospital.

Well today I spent te $200 and had it towed to my buddy's shop and he looked at it and accepted it saying he'll see what he can do. He did a quick peek around and, from what he can tell, it'll run again, the only real damage is the cooling system, radiator and fans etc. I want him to do it on the cheap so I asked him to just do it in his spare time so it doesn't cost me as much so he said he'll call me towards the end of July and let me know what's going on. I went through it in my mind and if I upgrade to a better cooling system, dual electric fans and a GDI radiator it'll probably cost me about $1200, if I just want it to run it'll cost me about $800. As soon as I hear word yea or nea as to weather it will ever go offroading again I will let you know. I should find out weather or not it will live within the next week or so.

EDIT:

It IS totalled, I'm gonna part out everything except the engine and tranny if I can find another dead Cherokee. I need to know if anyone has an older series Cherokee, 87-90. I'm gonna pull the engine and tranny and put 'em in another Cherokee if someone has one they want to get rid of cheap. If you do please let me know, I live in CO but I've got a trailer to pull a dead Jeep home. I need to know FAST before my parents make me junk it!
