I can't wait for the next update, this is the best thread we've had in a while.
Thanks Eric!

Today I finished up removing the passenger side doors. I was very concerned all last week that I might regret this mod. But I re-worked the hinges and am very happy to report that the doors close near perfect, just as good as they did before I cut the pins.
I'll post some tips for that in one of the other doorless threads a bit later. But for this thread heres a few pics. I won't go into too much detail with this since there is already a write-up about it. Here's the door side of the hinges. Bottom part has been cut off. New pins (5/16" bolts) welded in. ![]() Top hinge. ![]() Bottom hinge. These are here just to show how they go on. If you want to do this, make sure you bolt the hinge back onto the door, then slide them on. Don't try and bolt the door to the hinges... ![]() On tap for tomorrow - sheet metal cutting.

I was asked about my fire extinguishers. While this isn't a new mod, I took a couple of pics to show how they are mounted.
![]() I found some generic metal clips that I bent to my liking in order to hold the extinguisher bracket. I put a screw through the bracket, clip, and into the pillar. Its not the best but in the 3 or 4 years I've had it like that it has worked fine. ![]() And speaking of fire extinguishers, I thought I might need to use one today as I was welding on the body and the interior caught fire.... just for a few seconds... ![]()

Sweet update thread. I really need to learn how to weld...
As for the doorless thing, I might end up taking a closer look at that sometime this week. There have been so many threads about it that I almost have to try it out. Besides, I've never seen a doorless XJ in person so now's my chance. Oh yeah, coming from the world of Mustangs, tons of people run exhaust dumps right under the passenger compartment, usually before the rear axle and gas tank though. The only problem I see with you is that when crawling, you don't go very fast so the exhaust is gonna come straight up and into your windows. Not sure this will be too much of a problem on an almost stock motor Jeep. Mustang guys are running race gas and no cats with dumps like these, which means the exhaust smells awful and will make your eyes water and nose/throat hurt after only a few minutes.
