All I can say is wow, amazing build, I'm taking all the tips into account for running 35's since that's what i've got, I just need to do the swap from 2.5L to 4.0L, the 2.5 aint cutting it lol, but once again, amazing build and I look forward to seeing more updates :-)

Eric,

I read your entire thread earlier, but can not remember if you ever mentioned which size lift you bought.

Is it the 5.5 or 7.5?

I am planning on 37s at some point, but want to keep a low COG. What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

His suspension started life as the RE6200 5.5" kit by Rubicon Express.

Since this is a beef up thread I have a question. Have you or are you going to beef up the front drive shaft, it's kind of dinky dont you think? Sleeving it as well or any other ideas?

Thanks Jason. Yes it was the 5.5" kit. I got 6" of lift from those coils which is common.

No, and I don't really think its a problem. I have never heard of a front driveshaft failure just because of its size. Driveshaft failures most often occur after it hits a rock and damaged creating a weak spot in the shaft, or the u-joint can go, but its the same size u-joints used in most driveshaft yokes for jeeps. Some people even use the stock front driveshaft in the rear with the RE hack-n-tap SYE. I've never been comfortable with that idea but it seems to work for most people.

The key is keep the driveshafts off the rocks and they do fine.

Have you ever compared the weight of a front drive shaft to the rear shaft? I may even be more comfortable with a front shaft in the rear, my only concern is the smaller diameter of the slip joint, the rest of the shaft is pretty stout. I've never seen one fail.

There are a lot of opinions about this and there is no one correct answer. My personal opinion is that I like the 6" of lift I have for 35's. I could see doing 37's with the same amount of lift or even up to 8", but there's really no need to go higher. I know there are people that do it with less and will even condemn these statements, but this is just my opinion. Everyone also just talks about lift height but they fail to mention track width which is equally important. I think I'd rather have a full-width D44/D60 combo with 8" lift rather than 4-5" lift and stock width axles and the wheels with close to stock backspacing. It shouldn't be hard to do that with 6" of lift if that is what you want.

FYI the backspacing I have now equals out to 3.0" on my "stock" axles. Of course I've gotten tippy a few times but who hasn't?

Eric, I know you didn't get this far through the winter without doing something to your jeep.

I take it out every now and then but its not a daily driver anymore. In the Spring or Summer we should be back doing lots of trails again so just come out with us.

No actually the Jeep has been parked in the nice clean garage just sitting there most of the winter. But now that Christmas is over, my mind is turning to Jeep stuff more and more these days. I still need to watch what the economy is doing, and because I work for the County we are getting hit pretty hard with budget cuts. But hopefully you will start to see some stuff happening in Feb / March.

Great work Eric.I read your book two times and it is helping me build my Greeny 2000 XJ with all the good stuff from my 87 white woody(17 years).
We saw your Jeep again in Moab and thought it was one of the top trucks. With all the XJ's that have been built, you still have so many original mods. That Barrett Lake trip was fun.Hope you do a follow up book.

Well next up is a cage, but to do it the way I want the snorkel will have to go bye-bye. That also means repairing or replacing the driver side fender. So I have to also work out something else for the intake and I think I am going to try a cone filter in the cowl or drawing air from the cowl.

PS. Glad to see you on here Greg, and thanks!
