TieRod conversion

Well after countless hours of searching for a HD Tierod w/bigger TRE's and not being rich enuff to swing theCurrie setup, I decided to do the 1998 V8 Grand Cherokee conversion..Not only is the rod Bigger, IT's Solid all the way thru!..(unlike stock one i have) And the Ends are A LOT beefier then the stock ones i have. Heres the link i followed for the conversion http://www.stu-offroad.com/steering/zjtie/tierod-1.htm I got my parts from Autozone and the "moog" #'s are what was on the boxes i bought. 73$ out the door! Heres some pics of the swap:

New parts

About 1/8 diff between the 2

I know its not a Chromoly tierod, BUT its is a HUGE diff in weight, strength and hopefully durability ..Gives me piece of mind knowing i have a rod that doesnt flex with the pull of a hand...And now i have a spare Trail Rod Just in case!...

Going to check Toe, Camber, and alignment in the a.m..

Hope this helped someone out there that was looking for a non "break the bank" way to beef things up a bit.

Good post and thanks for taking time to do. I need to do this badly and the price is right. Can you post all the Autozone part number or moog numbers you have?

Thanks.

Nice man, I've done the same.

One of the best mods I've done.

i did this conversion only because my old tie rod wasn't adjustable. i also did it for the strength and durability, but when i went to autozone, it was 70 for replacement or 80 for the upgrade.. i wonder what one i chose? definitely a great upgrade though and for cheap..

I did the same when installing my lift... I can't believe the difference between the two... how guys wheel with the stock tierod is beyond me... I did however keep my old one as a trail spare.

I installed this last night and can tell a difference just cruising down the road. Does not feel like the tires are flexing when hitting a bump like it used to. Definetly worth doing.

Do a DIY alignment check after. You have to take the driver's side wheel off to get to the castle nut if you are using a torque wrench to tighten things down.

I noticed you kept the stock drag link and right side TRE, are the 98 V8 zj ones the same as the xj ones?
