Taurus fan swapping questions (for those who have done it, and ford gurus)

At the junkyard today I had a heck of a time looking for the right fan, So I got the one with the closest part number I could find, 8c607-aa. (I think, will look and post for sure when I get off work.)

Now, this fan has a three wire connector on the motor. Most swaps I have seen online have a cable attached to the motor with a 3 pin round connector on the edge of the fan shroud. Did I get a good fan, or did I get one with a lower cfm? Just a different style perhaps?

Also, how to wire it? Should it come on low with the stock electric fan, or always be on low and have high come on with the stock fan? Or is this something I'm just going to have to play with to see what she likes best?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Seems at though I got the right fan, but I could not get it to fit. I think my radiator may sit back further than most peoples' do.

Did it come out of a 3.8? I'm sure you've read Go Jeep's write-up (for those who haven't, it is here: http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoTaurusFanInstall1.htm.

I'm sourcing a fan right now to do this, but it will be a while before it happens.

Spent whole past Saturday at the JY around here looking for some options to do the electric fan swap and I would like to point out that there's a lot of Ford models with that same 8C607 number in their electric fans plastic cases. As far as I could see also the fan coming from the 2001 Ford Escort is one of the right ones to this conversion, since the fan motor itself is way bigger than the ones found in models like the some taurus, contour, etc with the same number on them.

Yeah, I posted the number for the one I got, and it did pull right on 30 amps for high, so I'm pretty sure it's the right one. I got it from a 3.0, but from what I could see, it was the same as the 3.8 one.

It was about a half an inch too thick for me.

The electric fan kicks in when you get too hot at idle, and the steel fan can't keep up. The idea of swapping to an all electric setup is to have less lag on your motor's revs, and to be able to dump maximum cooling power into it whenever you want.

While I was playing with the electric fan, I had to turn the jeep around with no fan on it at all, and it sure does make a difference. The engine felt a lot more peppy without the extra load.

Frees up a few horsepower since there isn't the drag on the motor spinning the mechanical fan.
