Stuck in Part-Time!!! Please Help!!!
Today I used my 4wd to get through some mud, then when I can out and switched in back into 2wd it would not disengage. Its stuck in part-time. When I put it in Full-Time there is no display but it sill feels on. I have tried moving the handle in all posiiton and wile the main shifter was in nutral. The T-case will switch into 4-low and 4-nutral but it wont go to 2wd. I seem to also be leaking a clear sticky fluid onto my driveway, but it doesnt seem to be comming from my t-case, it seems dry. Could it be a vaccum? I need to figure this out before Thurs when I'll take it to a mechanic! THANKS IN ADVANCE!

If you have the 231 t-case then it could be the vacumn actuator sticking on the front axle or the switch on the t-case. No vacumn and it should disengage.

You can just unplug the vacumn lines but if the spring is stuck (makes it move to open) then the only way would be to pull it apart.

T-Case fluid is Automatic Tranny fluid. It will be red.

I don't know if Cherokee & TJs use the same actuator & such, but mine has been doing the same thing for a little while now. It's not always hard to come out of 4wd to 2wd, but sometimes it is. When it doesn't come out right away, either accelerating/decelerating hard seems to get it to shift...but sometimes it happens with a bang, too.

Can this actuator be cleaned out? I've never tried to look for it.

No it's a sealed/crimped vacumn actuator.

u-joint
I couldnt figure it out, so I took it in. It turns out it was a majorly bad d-side front U-joint. The mechanic said that the 4wd was disengaging but it didnt feel like it because the u-joint was buckling. So im gonna get it back from him and replace the u-joint myself and save the ca$h! Does anyone have tips on how to replace an axle U-joint?

Makes sense if it was binding. They can be fun to change it they are coroded at all. You can either use a big vise and a coupl of sockets or a ball/U joint press. The C clips usually break when you try to get them off but that is ok the new U joint should come with them. Do you know if you have the 260's or 297's ?.
