Let me just say, GREAT FORUM!!! Lots of good info here.
Recently bought a ’98 Sport (108k)—Love it! It does, however, seem to need new shocks and maybe suspension parts . . .etc. (hearing springy, creeky sounds and the like.)
I am not necessarily opposed to lifting it, but if I did it would be a minimum lift. I’m a city boy and the closest thing I get to off-roading would be on fishing trips and such. (Although we do have some pretty mean potholes here.)
My question to you is, what can I do to beef up/upgrade my suspension. Like I said, I don’t want to build a monster (I would not do more than a 2” lift if at all). Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Have a great Thanksgiving!

You could do a budget boost. There are a few listed in the FAQ section. That would give you about 2" of lift, you could run a 30" tire, not be huge, but enough to make your jeep stand out.
If you feel your front springs are worn out, then replacing them with a set of ZJ V8 front coils will give you about 1.75" of lift and firmer ride.

I would start with new shocks, youd be surprised at the difference that it would make. Then if you still feel you want to do a small lift or somthing you could do a 2in budget boost and still use youre new shocks.

Hey,
I was looking at that budget boost . . . and it is not out of the question--the price sure is right.
The idea of installing the zj coils on the front is intriguing, but will i have to do anything to the rear?
I figured I would need new shocks first and foremost: any recomendations for a brand and style to look out for to suit my needs?
Thanks for the quick replies.

If you do the ZJ coils then youll want like an aal or somthing to levle the rear with the front. An aal may ride a little stiff. Check out rusty's offroad for them. For shocks , Monroe Sensatracs and nice.

Thanks for all of this spot-on advice
And, GottaBeJeep, that link has inspired me . . .
i like the idea of that home brew budget boost on my black XJ. I will be hitting some junkyards this weekend. And the Monroe Sensatracs seem t be pretty solid.
Man, I'm glad I got another cherokee . . .sooooo much fun!
Happy thanksgiving . . . Leave no Turky behind!

Hey, jeepokee
That ride is what I’m talkin’ about: nice and mean and to the point! And my girl (who keeps harassing me) likes the color better than my black one. (She asked how much for a paint job . . .)
What tires you runnin’? I like
nevermind about the tires -- 30 x 9.5 firestone's Duuhh!
too many beers for me!

They're 30" Firestone Destination MTs. When researching before I got em I didn't come across anything bad about them. They handle well in the rain too. TireRack has them at #1 in their off-road category.
