Still getting warm

Well after replacing my tstat with a 195* tstat, a CSF 3-row rad, new water pump i was driving normal, today was a warm day like yesterday but today just driving and sitting at lights I noticed that my temp would climb to about 220*-230* then the electric would kick on and keep it there but not really lower the temp until I got up to speed.. but i guess i am kind of stumped as why it would still get so hot after replacing my whole cooling system. Any ideas??

Oh yeah I forgot, my cat is pretty clogged, tomorrow im replacing that as well. but i doubt that has anything to do with it.

Is your mech. fan working? Is your fan shroud in place? Do you have any airflow obstructions?

get a new shroud and make sure the mec fan is working right and make sure the system has no air in it.

That, and I'm leaning towards the fan clutch being worn and needing replacing.

Might also be an inaccurate Temp. gauge. My 91 reads 20 degrees to high. I plumbed in gauge and mounted so it hangs down to the right of the steering wheel next to the console.

Last thing, how do i make sure there is no air in my system? I thought the open system you dont have to worry about burping it or anything. And what are signs of a bad fan clutch, i dont really want to replace it unless it is going or has gone.

i recently had to replace my water pump thermostat and housing also, I bought this 8 dollar flush n' fill kit from prestone (at any auto store) that helps refill coolant and get out any depsoites in your lines that would resist flow.....all you do is splice it into your heater line that runs from your thermo housing to your heater core (hose next to your valve cover) and instruction are with it......

p.s bad colant or low colant is a possibilty

on an open system you still need to run the jeep till its up to temp and make sure the rad is full. you can still get ain in the system. also you want to make sure when your doing this that your heat is on that way you fill the heater core and heater hoses.

What is the normal temp anyway? On my 1987 4.0 it seems like if i idle forever the temp gets up to about 210.

We-e-e-l-l-l-l, a partially clogged cat will create too much backpressure and will cause the engine to run hotter than normal. Voice of experience here, I had an 86 Mustang with a V-6 that started running very hot, then it started running really bad, no power. After removing what was left of the cat's internals, the overheat and power loss problems disappeared.
