Why replace everthing replace what is burnt, and insulate it well, but you have to make sure when you put it back together nothing that moves is touching the wires in question..

If you decide to splice in the new section of harness, be sure to SOLDER all the connections, and insulated them with HEAT SHRINK TUBING or several coats of that "paint-on" liquid insulation.

Do NOT use crimp type butt-splices and do NOT use electrical tape. If you do, chances are, you will have another fire again.

find out why its smoking in the first place,"almost" dead shorts make poofs of smoke one in a while and those can be anyway in the entire harness. replace the section of wire and make sure its spliced in 110% or youll be doing it again in the future.

oh and harnesses at stealerships cost an arm and leg. powerseat harness for a 95exploror costs the customer about 300bucks

Hey, my jeep did that too
I had to leave it up north, get a ride home, and go back up the next day with a trailer and bring it home (70 bucks in gas later)
did you try to use any of your wipers or anything?
It might be the ign switch(like mine)
I had my daylighters running though it

oh and when i would shift out of any gear but drive the starter would come one, It was wierd

wel the igntion switch works but is burnt... and the harness that plugs into it has one wire frayed and doesnt not go into the harness like its posed it.

wat do yall think would be the best .
to replace the whole thing. or to just get a new harness from the junk yard and replace that bad part.?

The answer to this ought to be simple--if the time/labor to remove and replace the entire harness is less than cutting, splicing, soldering, and shrinking the existing harness, then do that. Otherwise, just go for the new harness.

Once you get the new harness from the boneyard, you should be able to figure out how hard it will be to install it in your existing machine, versus splicing in a new section on the existing harness.
