Starter, will one from an '89 fit a '96?

Hey all,
Before totaling his 89 cherokee, my brother put a new starter in it. So before the wrecker hauled it away, we took the almost new starter back off it, among other things. Now it just so happens that it's about time for a new starter in my '96 h.o. Anyone know if it will fit? I hate it when I take it apart to put something new in, and have the wrong part...

I'm not sure of the model of the one we have, but I found this one that seems to fit both years.
From link:
1989-1990: 6Cyl 4.0L "Gas, FI, VIN ''L''" Limited <--his
1994-1998: 6Cyl 4.0L "Gas, FI, VIN ''S''" SE <-----mine

Thanks guys,

The 4.0 used the same starter from 87 to 98, so you should be fine.

88 Cherokee. 4.5". 33's
90 Cherokee. 2" BB . 31's
97 Grand Cherokee. Stock for now
Red Jeep Club #364
