Someone was asking about this last week.

This is the dealer installed rear tire carrier that came on my XJ. It was an option but dealer installed after. I believe the factory ones were similiar.

Cheers.

I would guess with a little extension modifications pretty well any size. I've heard guys mention maybe the carrier is not too strong, but I've stood on the bloody thing and believe me it is very solid.

The lift gate on my 93 is fiberglass, I'd be scared to use that thing.

Is that a metal plate that they attatched to the fiberglass hatch? Id still be scared to use it. I really hate my spare tire being inside the jeep, it squeaks no matter how i position or shim it. I have been tempted to go for the roof mounting.

The rear lift is fibreglass but the mounting brackets are reinforced inside and is extremly strong. I mean its 12 years old and no sign of cracks or damage of any kind. Realize that 99% of the weight is distributed on the right rear of your bumper and frame rail.
