Every engine that I have seen hydro locked. (only 3 of them) ended up with bent connecting rods. If that is the case and you are REALLY on a budget, you should be able to just replace the damaged rods, that was what we did with two of the three (They were beaters anyway). Not a guarantee, but another possible option.

did see this, but make sure you change the filters - air/oil and clean out the air box

If by run really bad you mean have a miss or low power then yes. Otherwise, not necessarily. One of the ones we sank was a 4.0 and it got drove around for 2 weeks before we finally took it apart to see what was wrong. It basically just ran like it was low on compression on 2 cylinders.

Dude, just have them swap in a RB26DETT.

It'll probably be easier and cheaper than trying to find a piece of hairy chested American 6 cylinder fury.

On vacation 3 weeks ago I saw a 2005 grand cherokee go in hole up to mybe my knees, less then 3 feet, and it ingested water and stopped running He started it back up and it hammered and clanked till oil started running out the bottom and he called a tow truck.

Its also my guess that you hydro locked the engine. For future reference you should never crank you jeep back over to start it up after it had died in the water. Thats where stuff gets f***ed up. The right thing to do is to tow it home and then do all the stuff I mentioned before. If you are sure all the water is out this wont help but you can pull you plugs and turn it over to kick out any leftover water. Rule for me is unless I have a tow rig and trailer on call I stay away for really deep stuff until my cowl snorkel is done.

Once again good luck.
