Just kidding, that looks great. When I read the description I didnt think I would like it.
Ok here you go. There's a little more to it than just this but here's the basics.

have you thought about color matching the panel with the rest of the xj?

oh, and did you have to modify anything behind the panel? like brackets and stuff?
Color matching, yes I thought about it but I thought it looked a little tougher in black. Yes, the square headlamp holders were removed and the round were installed in place. They actually fit pretty well. I might have drilled a couple of holes to accept the new adjuster spring locations. Pretty simple actually.

The amber lights stick out a little more than I wanted them to but it was all I could find. The lense is actually a running light for a camper.

can anyone say disco2? good idea... i probably would used a slighty more modern round light... like s free form but it does look sweet. since ur keeping the bezels black have you thought of doing a black grille as well to blend it in and appear more stock?

Bro, that looks FANTASTIC. The round headlight really takes the mini-van-ness out of the 97-01 grille. It actually looks tough as nails, perfect. It really looks factory.

The CJ headlight (2D?) selection and black bezels gives it SERIOUS manliness. You should seriously consider marketing that.

Its a "sick dog," or dawg or dawgz or whatever that one guy was trying to say.

Nice work.

Unfortunately I can't do any more upgrades on it. I sold it last week. I'm starting to regret it now. It was such a practical vehicle: 2"BB, 30" tires, quick disconnects, K&N cold air intake. I even made a pop up tent for the back. It used the tailgate latch to suspend a piece of 3/8" plywood. Snaps and magnetic tape held the tarp in place. Tonight I'll start a new thread and show it. It will be final farewell to my beloved XJ.

I have a spare XJ in perfect mechanical condition that I have not driven in months. I was wondering how long it would have to sit before you considered it abandonded and started taking parts off of it without my persmission? Would you bother to check the VIN for ownership, check with the local police to see if it's stolen, inquire who's property it's on, ask anyone if you could have property that did not belong to you our would you start wrenching away believing it was OK?
Maybe you did all these things but since you didn't explain your defination of "abandonded" I was just curious if the new owner has stolen parts on his Jeep.

He said he found it in the desert.

Pretty much most people just dont LEAVE thier vehicle in the desert, nor do they use the desert as a convenient parking place. I am pretty sure there were LOTS of telltale signs that it was abandoned. ( 50 miles from nowhere, flat tires, missing parts, dust, tumbleweeds, etc).

I yanked an old model T out of the desert and built a rat rod out of it. The DMV only required verification that it was street legal to re-issue an R title. (Nevada, at the time)........... Should I have taken it back and left it there because I might have stolen it?

I think theres a law about finding abandoned vehicles. Like you can keep them but you dont OWN them. or something like that.

OK, I'll play along. I found it on a trail SE of Tucson. Get on your map. Tell me how much you see SE of Tucson. It's nothing but rocks and desert for hundreds of miles. Trust me, someone didn't just park it there and go for a walk.

Now here's the fun part. This jeep was in a wash. If you don't know what a wash is, feel free to look that up too. It was covered with debris and rolled on its side. Apparently it fell down a ledge got smashed up. My guess is that it had been there for a couple of years. Just about the only thing that was still salvageable were the head lamp assemblies and dried out serpentine belt. It had been picked pretty clean.
