did that make any sense? You could always make a spare tire box too.. (just take out the wheel) |

yea i thought about the magnet being close to the fender might mess with the sound, or at least rattle like hell. right. i heard of another idea, to build a false floor in the back and then i cound make a huge sub box.

i wouldn't make a huge sub box for only 1 10" sub...it'll sound like crap. but the false floor would work...leave the rear closed off to the right volume and use the rest as storage. thats what i will do when i put a system in the girls cherokee....that is if i am allowed to play with it anymore

Yea you can probably no doubt fit a 10" in that compartment...How big is your magnet...A 12" would stretch I think unless you have a small magnet or bump out the speaker away from the fender and wall...10" should work without a problem though depending on magnet size...In the future I am going to run either two 12's or one 15 with a sub box built into my false floor...I got pics of my plan I'll see if I can post them...

Personally I wouldn't cut the plastic trim and use that as part of an enclosure for a sub. Considering the standard rule of thumb for box building is use 3/4" MDF or a high quality plywood, I don't think that 1/8th of an inch of flimsy plastic will cut it, plus the flexing sheet metal will also color the subbass. Then again you may not be as concerned about how panel flex and airleaks affects sound quality and output levels.
I did a fiberglass enclosure. It's actually pretty simple. If you can do brakes, a lift kit, etc, then you should be able to handle fiberglassing. I have some pics of mine on pg 7 of my website Has some links on tutorials on how to fiberglass too. You just make some templates of out of cardboard for the parts that will be made of wood. Transfer the cardboard templates to wood and test fit the wood pieces and trim as necessary. One you have the wooden frame you just start laying fiberglass. Sure it's more difficult but the difference in output and sound quality would certainly be noticable. |

hey, can someone do me a favor? can someone measure the depth of that little cubbly space that everyone's installing a sub in? my jeep's in storage right now so i cant measure it. i don't want to do any cutting so i'd like to know just the depth of it. thanks!

hahahaha! That's the exact same idea I had! Wow, great minds think alike! The sub box with the false floor would work. I was thinking about building a custom fiberglass enclosure on top of the false floor...
