got a simple question, which one of these lines is the return line, as in which one do I hook the cooler up to?

if it matters it's a 1985 3spd auto 2.5L I4

Well you might clean the outside of both lines back where they attach to the trans. case then drive it around for about 8 to 10 mins. then with the XJ idling crawl under it and carefully feel each line.... the cooler one "should" be the return
line.... how about the dealer parts guy.... ask him for a return line.....then peek over his shoulder and ask to see which is the return & exiting line are.
Just some thoughts.....
Good Luck !
