Should an 1998 XJ stock ele fan be loud???
My electric fan cycles on with air con, front screen blower and rear heater sceen and also comes on at 215*.
Whenever it comes on you can easily hear it from inside the car and outside the car with the bonnet shut from standing quite far away. Aren't the facelift xjs fan suppose to be quite as mine given me a headache (it doesn't sound nackered or grindy etc) just a really load humm/whine. If it was quite ill have the aircon on more often. If its just a case of replacing the fan + motor etc. wheres the best place? any aftermarket places etc??

I can hear my fan in the car with the windows closed, it just started getting a little warm here, but not warm enough for the AC, so I noticed on saturday, while standing in traffic, how noisy the fan is, I wouldn't worry about it...

Same here. My '98 is fairly loud and cycles on just as you said. Mine comes on at about 212. As long as it's doing its job I'm OK with it. It was just another excuse for me to get an amp and some speakers.

The stock one on my '01 is very loud. Almost sounds like a leaf blower or something. Who knows....if I could figure out some way to attach a bag and a blade to it, I could use it for all of my lawn care needs! I think it is just the "nature of the beast".

I bought my XJ a year ago, and noticed the loud fan noise only when the A/C or defog is on. Took it back to the dealer, and they said it was normal. Drives me nuts. I roll the windows down whenever possible to let the wind cool my shaven head.

I like it. And the trunk is the boot. And if you consider the XJ a wagon, it would be an estate over there. |
