Nice write up. It's been added to the Tech/FAQ and credit given.

could you just drill up through the holes and feed bolt down through floor under carpet?

Hmm, that is the same way we did my brothers. But, didnt have the punch. I just used my fingers to fish the bolt through that triangular opening. I dropped it a few times and had to fish it out with the magnet though.

Deffinately use SS or Zinc Plated bolts though. And use Anti Seize as well.

Through the floor!!!! It is the best way. You can pound on those busted bolts forever if trying to do it by hand. When I cut the hole in my floor I found that the head of the bolt was welded all the way around- looked like my worst farmer weld. There was no way I was going to pound that out.

the swaybar bracket as a BPE is alot better way plus you never have to take those bolts out to change a shock again, all of them work though. I was able to tape a nut to a wrench and stick it in the access hole to tighten it up & left the weld nut up there, no need to hack the floor.

I broke all of them off and used an air hammer and punch to break the captive nut on top. Used a thin piece of wire to feed new bolt in from the top and put a nut on the bottom. Worked very well and there was no way I was going to cut a hole in my floor. Drilling or using EZ-out seems like way too much work for what it is.

The only problem with the swaybar barckets as BPE's is they mount the upper bushing 90 degrees from the way it needs to be mounted. For an onroad only jeep I guess this might be ok, but if it's flexing at all, jus get some real BPE's and be done with it.

I think anyone attempting this would benefit from installing BPE's and having to only deal with the bolts once

I notice that JKS BPE still uses the bolts like the regular shock setup... I like ot bolt up somth and leave the bolts alone and olny messs with bolting up the shock to that mount. I want somthing where I dont have to wory about removing a bolt once I get the 4 bolts out of the rear ever again. I know their is somthing that you can bolt up there just I cant find it. JKS BPE aint it.

i agree with installing a bpe while you are doing this process. i used a similar method to install my bpe's. when i broke the old bolts out i put a piece of masking tape across the open end of a wrench and used it to place a nut over the hole and then thread in a bolt from the under side. this way the nut sticks to the wrench when you put it in the access hole.

edit..i like the rocky road style bpe's however i made my own out of 1/4" steel instead of 3/16"

i would like to bump this for others to see. when i installed my lift on my trail xj a while ago, we did the sway bar bracket mod because, at the time, the only alternative we knew was to drill them out. well i am tinkering on it again, and decided to try this out. man, it's super easy!
