serpentine belt...how often?

How often does the serpentine belt need to be replaced usually? Is it 6 cracks per inch and thats how to tell if you need a new one?

IMO you replace the belt upon finding excessive cracks, if it's too loose (even after adjusting the belt tensioner), lots of squealing, etc etc.. I've replaced mine (both XJs) at 75K miles (when I replaced the water pumps).
