Seriously considering getting another XJ...need some basic info

Hey everyone,

Basically I sold my '92 a while back and it's subsequently been crashed. I inherited a Tahoe of my dad's after he passed away, but, frankly I think it's just a bit too big and thirsty for my taste. He was just as big a Jeep guy as he was a Chevy guy, and I grew up my entire life with an XJ in the family, so I doubt he would mind.

Anyway, I'm most interested in picking up a 97+, and I could be mistaken but it seems like they either went cheap on what they used to be equipped with, or they changed up the options. My '92 was stock and was lifted up quite a bit and had skid plates seemingly front to back. I'd be very interested in them because mine were pretty dinged up, so clearly they were doing their job. Was this the Up-Country in 92? I found a pretty good deal on a 4x4 Sport that's low mileage and clean but I fear that the Sport might be lacking in that. Is it a big pain to add them later?

skids are no biggie to add, minor drilling for some, none for others. you arent gonna find many, if any, fully skidded XJs, and what they do have for skids OEM arent that hot anyway.

you can always junkyard some OEM skids for cheap if you want

Yes, you were lucky enough to have an Up-Country Jeep

ya you might be lucky enough to find a XJ with one skid plate on it but definatly not all of them, i would just go to the junkyard and pick some up just some bolts to secure them

but let us know how the search for the jeep turns out

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt I was lucky with that one. Great truck...too bad it's been smashed, but fortunately after I sold her.

I found a Sport for sale, only 60K on the clock...4x4, A/C, all that...pretty much all that I needed. Includes a warrantee and they want about $8K. I was thinking if I could get them down to about 7 that it would be not a bad deal for the mileage.

what year? i got my 98 with an extended warranty (which, by the way, they don't honor very often, watch out) for 7 two years ago.

It's a 2000. I-6, auto, A/C, CD, ABS, etc...clean in nice shape. KBB lists that mileage at over $9,000.

But there's plenty for sale around here...the next one on the list has only 70,000 miles and the up country package for the same price...so I'm definately still looking.
