My passenger side fog light recently burnt out. After I removed the lens to change the bulb I found the metal piece in front of the bulb was completely rusty. I removed the drivers side for comparison and it was the same. These shouldn't be rusty, should they? http://i1118.photobucket.com/albums/...J/IMAG0244.jpg

Looks like a poor rubber seal. Moisture probably blew the light is there corrotion in the light socket. If the plug is not rusty put some dieletric greese (50cents at the parts store for a little packet) in the slot and on the connection points to the bulb. the use some weater stripe adhesive to but a thin line around the lens and the backside of that rubber seal to the housing before you put it back on. or buy new fixture.

So should I try to clean these up at all. I'm not sure if it will affect the output of the lights. I thought about sanding it down to make it shiny again.

Depends on cost if it is cheaper to but the elbow grease into it then go ahead but if it is a $40 light and the bulb socket is rusty I would replace it
