Runnin on the hot side

Lately it has been runnin hot especially when idilying for awhile. The fan kicks on all the time at 220. I put a 195 in it and it still gets toward 220. Any ideas why. When it is cool outside it seems fine. If worse comes to worse I will just hot wire the fan to the ignition switch so it is always on.

Have you checked the coolant level? Maybe have the system pressured tested or try a new rad cap. The mechanical fan clutch could also be going, decreasing the mechanical fan's ablility draw air. If the rad is older, it could be clogged as well.

x2 what conrasm said. How many miles on your rig? Is it the orig radiator? They are plastic and single core. If everything else checks out OK, it might just be new radiator time (the plastic ones can't be cleaned out). Be sure to get a 2 or 3 core new radiator. Good Luck, Chuck

At 10yrs old, it woudln't hurt to drop the $30-40 on a new fan clucth for the mechanical fan either. That made a big difference in my 93's cooling.
