I used to have the older version of the C4X4 winch bumper.

The bumper was actually two pieces. The winch box mounted up to the brackets. It mounted very securely and was pretty beefy.

The rest of the bumper was like a shell that bolted to the winch box. This was not quite as strong as I would have liked.

My question is - Is the newer tapered bumper designed in the same way? Or is it a one-piece?

The new C4x4 tapered bumper is all one 3/16" piece.

Thanks.

I'm glad they improved the design. That was my one complaint about the older bumper.

The c4x4 becomes a single strong system with heavier metal and internal gussets.

I think the plate that attaches to the front crossmember is just for side to side support. I still think that the rigidco front winch bumper is stronger than the C4x4.

How do you figure the rigidco is stronger if the plate is thinner and bolted on and does not have any gussets. Have you seen under the C4x4 bumper?

Yeah cause the C4x4 has a bulk head and mounts in 19 places like the rigidco riiight? Its well known the rigidcois the strongest mounting bumper out, its fine to like c4x4, but don't go crazy.

I don't see how people think the c4x4 looks better, its a big block while the rigidco actally has shape to it. Its obvious way more time goes into a rigidco than a c4x4 bumper.

did you have to modify your c4x4 bumper to get it to mount over the c-rock plate?I have the same bumper and always wondered if the c-rock plate would interfere with the bumper "horns".The only thing I can gripe about the c4x4 is the ends are not boxed like the rigidco.I lightly bumped a tree last time out and it bent the corner in a little. Its a good bumper for the price as long as you know how to drive and avoid hitting trees.

Unbolt the side bracket from the bumper and put a 3/16" spacer(washers, steel sheet) behind the bracket.

no all i did was tighten it down. it takes a little work to get on because the brace spreads it apart more but it wasnt to bad. Oh and if i remember correctly, you cant use a spacer on the other side like the guy above said. I know jeepingjason has a writeup and that is how he did it but c4x4 has changed there design and added a bar across there so you have to mount it with horns inside the brackets on both sides....i hope that makes since....

Oh and i plow trees over all the time and have never bent mine. Ive hit trees that i thought we dead and when i hit them it jarred me to a dead stop and it didnt bend....
