reverse light help?!
for the past couple of months I've been having trouble with my reverse lights on my 98 cherokee. at first i would put it in reverse and they wouldn't come on, but i could jiggle the gear shifter and they would pop on. now they aren't coming on at all. sometimes they will randomly come on, but not very often.
so we pulled the panel up on the gear shift, but we can't find the switch for the lights to come on. anyone else have this problem? any suggestions on where to look next?

i dont know about the 98s but on earlyer models like mine theres a thing called the neutral safty switch that lets the motor only start in park and neutral and it also controls the revers lights... its on the passenger side of the tranny... does your repair manuals not tell you anything about it?
basically if u have it you take it off, take it apart, clean it all up grease it up with dielectric grease and throw her back together... theres a post in the tech part of the forum on it

Yup, thats the NSS as he said. Its a 300 buck part at the dealer, but you can fix it yourself using this great write up from Jeepin.com.
EDIT: it seems that his site is down right now, but thats a good link, check back later.
