Renix cooling system question

So, I bought a 90' for $300 and have been repairing and making it a driver for the past few days.

It has the classic renix closed cooling system which the PO had replaced the pressure bottle on recently.

Everything on the system works with a new thermostat (195*), but my temps never get up to the normal 210 range. Every other Jeep I've owned always runs in the 210 range.

Just asking, to see if it's normal or not.

on the back of the head on the driverside there will be a coolant sensor. i usually take that out and fill the coolant til coolant comes out from the sensor hole. this is how i make sure there is no air in the system.

I'm fairly sure there is no air in the system, I flushed the system today with the upper hose off and the water hose in the radiator. Thermostat opened up and I got the entire system clean.

I covered the radiator with cardboard and got it hot enough for the electric fan to come on.

Oh well, might have a weak sending unit or gauge.

Did u actually install a 195 stat or is the PO saying he did? Doesn't take much to remove/test the stat.

Man Law - hoods should be raised at least once a week.....have a look see.

Where is it getting to? Double check your temps with an IR gun, the old gauges aren't 100% accurate.

The standard black chinese coolant bottle caps are junk. Imagine that. Go to Napa and get a 703-1396 cap for your bottle. see what happens.

If you own a Renix Jeep, you'll want to check this out.

Temps are getting up past the hash between 100 and 210 so I'm guessing the gauge is showing about 180.

I replaced the thermostat with a new 195, the one I removed was also stamped 195.

I'll have access to a IR thermometer tonight and check actual temps

And that's a bad thing?

I've owned FIVE RENIX XJs to date, one converted by PO. The converted one ran hottest of the five.

I had managed to "pull down" the op temp on three of the other four (the fourth is a parts donor) through various small mods, and they all ran 190-195*F with no ill effect on running, fuel economy, fuel efficiency, or tailpipe emissions.

The nice thing? RENIX doesn't care about Op Temp like OBD-I/II does, so leave it and go! I seriously doubt you need to "burp" the system as it stands - a gas pocket would collect behind the thermostat if present, which prevents it from opening, and would cause a drastic overheat condition.

You're good - don't worry about it unless it "spikes" on you.

Well....no, lol I just knew a low operating temp could cause issues on later Jeeps. This is the first renix I've owned so I just thought it would be the same.

I do know I'll more than likely be swapping the abs system to a later model non abs when it dies.

A question you might be able to answer is: I have a 92 parts doner that has factory abs on it, could I use the master cylinder, booster and prop valve from it when I do my swap?
