Removing Headliner

My headliner has to go. I am so tired of it hitting the top of my head because it is sagging so bad. anyone taken the headliner out and just had bare metal showing? I want to see what it looks like. it might be some time before I can find the time to replace the headliner, so it might would be bare for a little while.

Thanks

If you clean up the wires it looks sweet IMO. I ripped mine off thinkin id put new fabric on it, but got lazy because it wasnt a big deal and it looks nice without it. Just be aware that on hot days the roof is going to be really hot, and you will have a tad bit more noise on the freeway.

recover it real quick with some cheap camo fabric (not the fleece) its easy to clean, looks cool and isn't hard to do. Getting it out is the hardest part, once you understand how it works, you can put it in fairly easily. be sure to clean off the dried (brown) foam pading.

yeah, don't bother replacing it because it will most likely fail again.
I removed the cloth and foam, painted it the same gray color and now you can't even tell it from the crap-a** original except that it won't be falling down again...ever!
I liked the metal roof until it rained.... it sounded like someone dropping BB's on the roof

Very true! I went to Tennessee about 2 years ago and stayed in a cabin with a tin roof, and it rained every night. best sleep I have ever had. although sleeping while driving might not be such a good idea.

You can buy headliner kits on ebay made for the XJ....about $50. It's original foam-backed fabric too.....

As if the XJ wasn't enough of a Tin-Can.......

It doesn't take long at all once you remove about 16 screws and the rear seatbelt bolts.Total time for everything 8hrs. Here's a few pics of my crazy headliner....
