Since the new owners won't allow you to post pics from the app, I don't be able to show y'all what's going on. Got the engine out, using the 88 block, my 93 head, and a master kit.

I'm letting the machine shop rebuild my engine because they're doing it cheaper than I could do it myself. Should be ready this week or next.

I'm going to get new injectors as well. How do you determine if the distributor is still good?

I was repairing engines for 20 years. Here is my opinion.
First,bad engine has to be diagnosed, because decision has to be based on which part is bad. If you have bad head, there is no reason to buy another engine.
If problem is in block, you have to know which part is bad. Piston and connecting rod can be replaced. Pretty much any crankshaft can be repaired for about $100 +you'll need new bearings $60-90.

If your mechanic says "engine is blown", you need to find another mechanic

Piston #5 had a hole in the very side, scored the wall. I'm thinking it was the injector going bad that contributed. A lot of the cooling ports were clogged as well in the head to the block.

It also had a main bearing knock ever since I bought it. The machinist gave me a really fair price, cheaper than I could of done it myself. It's been completely rebuilt.

About how much did it cost for the rebuild if you don't mind me asking?

Ford rebuilt injectors-64
Oil pressure sender-30
Gasket kit-70
T stat, coolant- 30
Brake cleaner, degreasers, etc-30
Paint-40
New lower and upper hoses- 25
Rtv, loctite, dielectric grease etc -25
Coolant temp sensor-15
Misc. hoses- 20
12 quarts of oil and two filters-45
Oil Pump-60

Just an update! Oil pressure is awesome, idles perfectly, gas mileage is beautiful. Odd quirk of reading hot after coming to a stop, e fan turns on right on the white mark before red. Brings it down eventually. But the t stat reads fine via thermal.gun

You may still have some air in your cooling system. I like to unscrew the temp sensor on the t-stat housing and fill until coolant comes out. Good luck!

Just an FYI, when I took my Jeep for a mud bath it cost $2300 (parts, labor and 3 yr warranty) to have my engine rebuilt.
