Rear window wont go back up

I have a 99 4 dr XJ. The "Window Lock" button has never worked- only the driver can control the windows (fine by me.) Today, I put the windows down and now the rear passenger side window wont go up! I haven't started trying to fix it yet, just looking for a place to start. Is there a way to bypass the switch to see if everything else is good? Also, do I need to pull the door panel off to access the switches or can I pry them out of the door?

The switch panel can be unscrewed from the door panel IIRC.
I would remove the affected windows door panel (3 minute job) and put a meter to the motor plug to see if it is getting power. Have someone else try the switch while you have the multimeter connected to the motors plug.
That will tell you right off if it is the motor or wiring etc.
You can also see if the window has come off the track etc too while the panel is removed.

Okay, done. The window is on track and but there is no power to the motor. Time for a new switch?

Now you need to find out if the switch panel on the drivers door switch panel is putting the power out or not.
If it is, you have a break in the wire somewhere or the switch on the affected door is robbing the power.
If not, then you could be looking at the switch panel on the drivers door, or a possible wiring issue there.
Let me see if I can find the diagram of that switch panel for my 98, should be the same I hope...
Did you manage to raise the window again by giving the motor 12 volts and a ground?

Test for continuity and power following the diagrams below. If you cannot figure them out let me know and I will walk you through it.

Hey

When I bought my 99 xj the windows would sometimes work and sometimes not. I did the modification to the window lock out button and never had another problem with them. Use the search engine to find this modification. It might fix your problem.
