rear/front shocks
i am looking around for a new jeep 94 to 96 the one i looked at today needed shocks (evrything eles seemed great) it may be sagging a little in the back , but def needed shocks all the way around so i was wondering what kind of shocks i can get that would work with a 3 inch lift , but would still be ok for a stocker until i lift it ? i heard of people keeping the stock shocks on a 3 inch lift but you dont get as much drop with the sway bars off becouse of the shock ,
has any one ever used air shocks in the back ? it would be nice to be able to pump them up when loaded up with camping stuff or what not , (so the rear doesnt sag as much) not sure how they do wheeling though any thoughts ??

Buy some used shocks from somebody who is lifting their XJ, from the junkyard, or some cheap new ones. I have found several set of nearly new shock at the junkyard. A bonus is that all the bolts are rust free. You really can't use 3-5" lift shock on a stock XJ.
Air shocks are a bad idea for 4x4 trails. If you over extend or over compress them, they will blow out, leaving you with no shocks. A well designed store bought lift kit or properly built add a leaf/bastard pack will give your XJ extra load capacity.

I have some edelbrock EIS shocks on the front that are for a 3" lift. I changed my lift to 4.5" so I need to swap these out. PM me if you are interested. They are the spec below: I used them about a year. They are still shiny and painted red.
Front shocks are Edelbrock 33983: 84-01 Cherokee XJ (Front) for 3" lifted |

The rear shocks can be a pain in rear end. You'll will more than likely snap the bolt heads right off with little effort. If you do there is no need to panic. Just make sure you give yourself time to drill out, or punch out the old ones.
