IS the roaring all the time? Power on/off, in turns, certain speeds, certain driving conditions?

Have you pulled the rear shaft and done a test drive?

What axle do you have?

Does it do it in all T-case settings?? 4H-4H-4L

Need more info.

It could be a T-case bearing too..

Most common cause of rear end noise is gas being expelled through an exceptionally tight sphincter.

Cheapest option is a new 97-01 8.25 axle from a Junker. You need gears, could be spiders but more likely Ring and Pinion, Bad wheel bearing can cause a howl in the diff.

Did you check the pinion and wheel bearings when you replaced the "differential bearings"? If not I would say it's probably one of them. It's a lot easier to just replace the bearings than to have find a good matching rear, pull it out, tear out your old one and then finally bolt the in the new one. Even then you have no guarantee it not bad either unless you pull it apart and check all the bearings in that one as well. Does your teacher just want you to replace the whole rear because he doesn't know how to set up gears or what? I had a votech teacher tell a friend of mine that he ruined his jeep once because he put a lift on it so just keep that in mind too.

If you mean the carrier bearings when you say differential bearings, then I would suspect the pinion bearings next. The outer pinion bearing is the one that normally wears out first.

im gonna with 93gc40 and replace the spider gears the pinion bearings dont seem bad if they were bad wouldnt you be able to move the drive shaft if the bearing was shot or bad

Note that when driving straight down a road the spider gears are not turning. The only way to get spider gears to turn fast is to have one wheel stationary and the other one turning such as a stuck in the mud scenario. I can't see spider gears making a roaring noise as you drive on the highway.
