Only you know for sure, until you post pictures, or read this thread -> 8.25 or Dana 35 ?

.

A recent Gallup public opinion poll shows the NRA, at 58% approval, has a higher approval rating than either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

You're a 4.0 auto, so you'll have 3.55 gears unless it has the factory tow package, in which case it'll be be 3.73's. As far as WHICH diff you have, follow Tim's link and let us know.

The AMC 3.73 gear tow package was discontinued shorty after Chrysler bought Jeep.

Do you have ABS? Is the axle tube 2 & 3/4"?
-I'm sorry to say that you have a D35. Try not to lock it and run tires bigger than 32"

Does your diff have a distinctly flat bottom lip and a couple little horns on the top of the pinion section? (where the driveshaft bolts to the yoke) Is the axle tube 3"?
-Congratulations! You have a 8.25 w. 29 Spline axle shafts. You have a very stout axle that will handle 35's locked and abused to a point.

According to the Parts Catalog:
For 2001, the 8.25 only had 3.07 and 3.55 gears.
The Dana 35 had 3.07, 3.55 and 3.73 available.

When you change out the fluid, you can look at the numbers
stamped on the ring gear and you'll know for sure what diff
and what gear ratio you have.
