Rear brakes dragging?
I swapped in a boneyard '98 8.25 w/4:10s yesterday, getting rid of my Dana 35. I had the drums turned and replaced the shoes. I adjusted the brakes like I always do, with just a slight bit of drag. I pulled out and heard them dragging a good bit. I thought I had them too tight, so I pulled back in and loosened them to a "no-drag" state. After doing the auto-adjust thing, they're dragging slightly again. I checked the e-brake cables and it's not tight at all. It sounds like a sort of scraping noise. The springs are on correctly. The only thing I can think of is the wheel cylinders. The axle was sitting for quite a while before being sold.
Ideas?? TIA! ![]()

I swapped out the wheel cylinders, and have the same symptom. I'm really lost now.
I also used the e-brake cables from my Dana 35. THAT wouldn't have any effect, would it? It seems fine until I've driven it enough to adjust the brakes. Then the scraping sound starts. Here's another twist... I got home and the brakes were scraping, but the drums pulled off EASY! ![]()
