RE 5.5 Extreme Duty vs DPG 5" hybrid kit
Well i went to go look at the bronco i was going to get and well it was a piece of -=-=-=-=, so im not getting it so i am going to be lifting the jeep again.. But i am stuck between those two lifts the RE 5.5 and the DPG 5" hybrid. im going to be running 33s and possibly 35s on which ever i get and i am going to modify bushwaker TJ or YJ(not sure which ones everyone uses) pocket cut out flares flares front and rear to gain some clearance.

Im not sure which lift would be the best. i like hopw the hybrid kit gives 5 inches and not more.. but how much extra will the RE 5.5 give me over the advertised 5.5?

with stock bumpers, and minimal skid plating and/or lack of rocker guards, expect 6.5"+ initially out of the RE kit. On my heavy-weight rig though, I'm down to probably about 5" after 2.5 years of running the kit.

GottaBeJeep 06-24-2005 05:09 PM

The RE 5.5" has been giving 6.5 front and 7.5" rear when freshly put on. I ran the RE 5.5" on both my rigs for several years and they only settled to 6". I have since replaced the front springs with the same that come in the DPG Hybrid, and lost the 1.25" RE shackles and kept the settled 4.5" leafs and now sitting just under 5". I would get the hybrid if you are only getting 35's. I ran 37's on my RE 5.5" kit for quite awhile and had plenty of room and flex.

Magic2979 06-24-2005 05:35 PM

how good will my flex be with the hybrid kit bushwaker TJ/YJ flares and some 35s? right now i am actually looking at the SS Trxus mud terrains in the 34" size..

i just want to keep my jeep as functional as possible since it is my only vehicle and is my DD and i will be commuting back and forth to college everyday during the week

Jason, aka: 06-24-2005 05:41 PM

no different than with the 5.5" kit, just a lower ride hight.

Magic2979 06-24-2005 05:49 PM

alright that will work for me...

now when i get the lift, tires, and sye and trans cooler.. how long can i drive with my stock gearing? i wont have the money to re gear right away, and i dont do any highway driving with the jeep.. i should ahve the lift, tires, and sye by the fall and probably gearing by mid spring early june of next year

Jason, aka: 06-24-2005 05:59 PM

I ran 33's on stock gears for about a year or so. It was bearable. Mileage was about 12mpg all the time. 4th/OD was useless.

RuggedJeep 06-24-2005 06:10 PM

Ive been running stock gears for 2months with 33's and its OK. Biggest concern is gas..

Magic2979 06-24-2005 07:09 PM

i think to start out with i will probably run 33s so i may just end up going with the hybrid 4" kit and run 33s.. i think that will serve me well for what i want to do.. i just do weekend wheeling and not even every weekend.. maybe one or two trips a month.. :( i dont know i like the looks of both.. just not sure how big i want to go with the tires

and i like this stance

i have heard alot of things about that dpg/re hybrid kit, as soon as i come up 1000 bucks ill have it on. the stance looks amazing.

What steering are you running? I have been looking to upgrade to a setup like that. Did you need to do anything with the trackbar to put the draglink on the knuckle?

wipedawg 06-25-2005 05:23 PM

He's got that oro uturn steering setup that i've been drooling after for a while now. Funny enough i just bent my zj tierod i put on... looks like i might need to just fork out the cash soon for it.

Magic2979 06-25-2005 05:39 PM

also... does anyone think it is nessesary for a dd/ trail rig to have bigger than 35s on it? i have been talking with some of the people who wheel in my area. they all have real big trucks with big tires.. and they are all telling me that if i plan on doing some more serious wheeling than i should go bigger with the tires just to up my clearance.. they were thinking like a 37 range tire... but i am kind of iffy on that.. since it would mean more lift and stuch but i like the idea of more clearance... but i still need to keep this as a daily diver.. but they all drive there trucks daily with the big tires and non of them have regeared

so what do you think? .. should i go bigger than 35s and set it up like GottaBeJeep used to have.. with what i think is the RE 5.5 extreme duty lift and 37s   of course ill have to figure out something to do about the fender flares
