RE 5.5 Extreme Duty for 35's?

Will the RE 5.5 Extreme Duty lift clear 35's easily? I originally wanted to do just 33's, but I think I would be happier with 35's. Thanks in advance.

Talk to GottaBeJeep, he used to have giants on his rig I'm using 33s with my 6" lift, but I could probably get 35s in there. You may need a little trim job though. The biggest factor, is can your driveline handle 35s

Hey MSHarnett, do you have any pic's of your XJ? Yours sounds just like I wanted to build it originally. 4.5 RE with 33" LTB's.

Thats with 6" though, not 4.5. I did try the 33s with the 4.5, but I added spacers to make it work. Eventually I got the 6" Skyjacker coils to handle the weight of my bumper and winch. The RE coils just didn't cut it

If you didn't have the extra bumper and winch weight would the 4.5 coils have been enough? Do the rear 4.5 leaf springs work fine with 33's?

For 33's on 4.5" lift or 35's on 5.5" lift, plan on a fairly aggressive trim job. If the jeep will never go offroad you can fit 33's on the 5.5" lift and not have to trim.

Personally, I think the RE 5.5" kit is too tall for 35's. I had 37" MT/R's under mine. We have been putting the RE 5.5" kit on many XJ's, but swapping the 4.5" ZJ coils for 3.5" ZJ coils and the 4.5" leaf packs for 3.5" leaf packs. You have to trim and bumpstop for 35's regardless of lift height, so putting the smaller coils/leafs gives a lower COG which is great on the trails. The RE 5.5" kit sit's pretty tall when first put on (about 6.5" front/7.5" rear) and will usually settle to about 6", which is where mine was sitting with 37's. Swapping the coils/leafs will settle to about 5", which is fine for 35's. Dirk at www.dpgoffroad.com has a hybrid RE 5" kit which is the RE 5.5" kit with the smaller coils/leafs with some other goodies that make the kit very nice as we have found from many years of testing/trail time. I don't know that I agree completely with that statement. But then again, there are bunch of people out there that think 8" isn't tall enough for 33s. So, who knows.

I run at settled RE 5.5" kit with 35s and bumpstops. But then again, I haven't trimmed nearly as much as most people. So, GottaBeJeep could be right.

Anyway, my advice is for you to get a complete kit....whether it's dirks or the standard RE XD kit....get a complete one. You'll be happier in the long run and you won't be searching for parts all over the place. It just takes the guess work out of it.

I'm thinking what I will do is put the 5.5 Extreme Duty on, regear to 4.88 (it's an auto) SYE w/drive shaft, and throw on some 33x13.50 LTB's so I can minimalize the fender trimming. I would run a super 35 kit too. I had it in my TJ and never had problems with my 35's. Your guys' jeeps look great by the way.

I have the 33" LTB, they kick ***, but I would highly suggest you get yourself a set of road wheels.

Eh, anything less than bias-ply is for pansys anyway.
