RE 3.5" Super Ride Lift Plans...

So I am getting the RE 3.5" lift kit, with the tap/drill SYE kit from them. I am looking into using a front drive shaft from a scrap xj in place of buying a kit or having something fabricated.

I will have it sitting on 31"s when I am using it as a DD, and I will have 33"s for when I offroad it.

My questions are as follows.

What else do I need to do to the jeep to make sure it will get along with it's new parts.

i.e. I know there is a lot that needs to be done to "stabilize" the car when using 33"s, but what is the real best method to make the jeep happy? Throwing on a dana 44 in the rear? Stearing stabilization?

So many questions that I really don't know how to ask, so I am wondering if you all can help me out. Trying not to make this the typical "I am getting a lift I need help" thread. Would like to think I am asking "smarter" questions and thinking this through a bit more :: )

I would definitely recommend a new steering stabilizer like you mentioned, I purchased the RE one and it seems good. Also I would make sure you spend a little money on the shocks for some good ones, most people are going to recommend the OME's since you are using it as a DD as well. I'm not sure what rear end you have but if its a D35/8.25 is should be okay for light-medium wheeling on 33's. I mean you could always throw in a D44, it would never hurt. I have a D44/D30 config and I'm thinking about getting a D44 for the front as well. I mean theres a lot of different options to go for. Is there a price range you are wanting to stay in, not including the lift/shocks/SYE?

You're going to need to do some trimming to fit 33's with a 3.5 lift. I just bought the RE 3.5 Superflex kit, and I'm going to run 32's, which will require some fender trimming. What is your plan with wheels? you definitely don't want stock backspacing (5") with 33's.

here is a link to the wheels I was looking at, no idea if they'd work with my jeep or not though.

And yeh I know I am gonna need to trim, have planned that before I even planned the lift :: )

Are the wheels I was thinking about. Also on the superflex I have heard if those ball joints bust it's like $190-200 to get new ones, that's why I am going with the super ride, just wanna keep costs down over time.

those are nice wheels, i like them. I think on the later models like yours you need a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern, i might be wrong though. Also I'd recommend the 8" wide wheels, that way its better for lowering the air pressure

all XJ's have a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern if it's still got stock axles

^^ exactly. 5 on 4.5 for the lug pattern. Also, the backspacing on those is 4.5". 4" or 3.75" is probably what you want to be running with 33's. I would guess you'd rub the heck out of 33's on the lower control arms with 4.5" of backspacing. No experience there, just going on the measurements I've taken. Maybe someone can chime in...

I'm going with 3.75 backspacing on my 32's. Stock is 5", and I"m assuming you're going to a 12.5 width tire with 33's...that's at least, what, 4 inches wider than stock (not sure on the stock size)? If you're only gaining an inch of backspacing and 2" of tire width on either side, you might be pushing it.

Ok so finding myself some new wheels is what I need to be doing?

What is a solid wheel, prefably with a black powder coat on it already, if not I can get it done cheap, that will work well with both the 31's and the 33's.

always could go the steelie route. not too expensive and they're pretty much available everywhere. check craigslist.com too, 9 times outta 10 there's a good deal on there.

Look up some wheels on quadratec.com They have some pretty good pricing on steelies. Soft 8's are always popular, but they have others as well.

so 8 vs 10 is the way I should go? also will the wheels work no matter what size tires I throw on? i.e. I don't wanna have to grab a second set of wheels for the 33's would like to just use the same ones as the 31's

So you are going to unmount the 31's and mount 33's on the same wheels everytime you want to go wheeling? Why not find a happy medium in 32's and just run one set of tires? That's what I'm doing (and normal people do) on a 4.5" lift.

I guess that would make a ton more sense. I am still toying with a lot of ideas.

and I am going with a 3.5" super ride, not a 4.5", and yes I am trimming the fenders.

agreed. mounting, unmounting, mounting, etc would end up being a PITA. if you want two sets (31's and 33's) get a decent set for your 31's for the street and just get a cheap set of steel wheels for the 33's for the trail. again, craigslists can be a gold mine at times.
