Ramsey Winch...

I can get a used ramsey winch for fairly cheap 2-300. It is only a 5K lb winch, though. Is 5K enough for mild winchingaka myself? I know using a snatch block multiplies how much you can pull and all...is it worth it?

well your looking at a dry weight of 3300lbs so you COULD use it but most winch co's recomend 1.5 times your trucks fully loaded weight. so 5000 lbs if you dont carry a lot of crap with you or are not gonna use it to pull out a full sized truck it should do ok but i would just save up and get a 8klbs just to be on the safe side. i believe the mile markers are on sale for 399 but i dont remember where.

you know you can always get a hi lift jack and use that like a winch till you can save up to buy a winch. thats what im gonna do. plus you can use that on any other truck on the trails. just get some tow straps and some chain and your set. then you will have the straps and chain for recovery with the winch when you get it.

that sounds like a good deal, but i think a 5,000 would be more adequate for a samurai or something like that. i don't have a winch yet, so i use one of these for now:

i agree with going 8,000 lbs or more. if i get stuck, i want to be certain that it will pull me out. i saw a milemarker 8,000 lb electric winch on ebay with shipping 375. sure, thats not the best winch on the market, but its a whole lot better than nothing.
if you can, try to save up for a nice one. people swear by their warn winches.

I'd agree that its suited for a samurai; as I found it for sale on a Bronco II. Have the hi-lift and a come a long. Thanks for the advice.
