Radio Antenna
Can anyone recommend
a) A good, rubber stubby antenna that won't die when I'm offroading if it gets nailed by a tree, or b) how to get my factory automatic antenna out? How do you get the side planel off the car? I got the screws from the engine compartment and the door frame, but I couldn't get the panel off. What else needs to come out?

I have a 12" billet antenna. I can easily remove it when needed.

My 92 Laredo has the power antenna that goes up an down depending on if the radio is on or off.
It doesn't work any more, and I too would like a stubbie rubber one. There are some stubbie billet ones on ebay but they'll cost you $30-some dollars.

My '88 had a power antenna. I had a truck with the stubby antenna replacement, it got pretty poor reception. Maybe they have improved them some over the years.

You have to take the front off, and there are some screws in the front by the headlight. You shouldn't have to take the entire front off just the side that's attached to the fender. It should be 2 or 3 screws. Oh, and there is also a flimsy bracket behind the center of the fender. You have to pull the rubber mud gaurds back to get to it. It's a pain in the ballzack. I had to do mine to fix my door hinge. |
