quick xj rear axel swap question

will a older d35 xj axle with the ribbed drums work on a 98? both have same gear ratio. the 98 has a bad bearing and i can get the other axel for free so figured id just swap it.

Yes. And real axle swaps are very easy and straightforward.

Older d35's (86-89?) are not c clip axles. Not that it is any stronger. just won't lose the shaft if it breaks.

ok cool, im not sure what year its from but its got the large ribbed drums and my 98 has the smooth drums, the brake shoes are about 1.75" wide, are they the 10" shoes?

Yes

ok

Assuming you have the c8.25, putting the d35 in is retarded regardless if it was free. Depending what bearing went in your 8.25 it might be easier to fix it then swap it out, like a wheel bearing.

the older axle doesnt have abs, can i still use it and just pull the abs relay to make the light go out? everything hooks up the same right?

rubicon17 07-03-2013 05:04 PM

anyone?

bobbo_xj 07-03-2013 08:23 PM

I would think the year of the older d35 axle is needed for an answer. -although not from me. You might also need to check rear driveshaft compatibility too. It would be worth knowing the condition of the donor axle, including any whining it may of been making? lol

wow

rubicon17 07-03-2013 08:36 PM
