Quick question about a 3inch rear shackle lift

moneys tight right now because of xmas coming up and my tires are bald as hell but i do have some 31s with 90% thread i really need to put on my 99 xj with no lift. in the spring i wanted to fully redo my whole suspenison with a 4.5inch kit with 33s. I was looking on ebay and found a 3inch rear shackle lift and 2inch front coil spacer lift. anybody ever use this? its only going to be for a couple months but still any thoughts?

If you are going 33's in the future, you would end up trimming. Why not trim now and use 1.5 to 2 inch shackles? Then you would just need 3" springs in the future to have 4.5" of lift.

A 3" lift with only a shackle would seem to me a very long shackle. Can't remember exactly how lift vs shackles length relationship goes for xj, but on a yj 1" shackle length equates to 1/2" lift. That being said as 3" lift would require a 6" longer than stock shackle. Overall it would be 10" or longer. In addition the infamous saggy xj leafs may not net you the 3" you want. Try for a set of junkyard xj leafs and do some testing to see what will net you 2.5-3" lift. Or check the FAQs for other junkyard lift setup. Jk stock shocks are good for close to 3" lift I believe. Stock parts can be had cheap or free.
I haven't purchased a new lift. Both I have had were used and did fine. 3.5" and a 4.5" RE lift. Think I gave $150 each and probably 100 for new shocks on the first one. GC control arms are good for not rubbing tires on smaller lifts.

I'd say put the rubber on and trim. Here is a picture of a '01 with 30x9.5R15.

How much does this "lift" cost? And, how wide are the 31" tires you have?
You should be able to find 4 USED tires for around $100 installed (at least in SoCal you can).

Or just have the 31"'s installed and see how badly they rub. If your suspension isn't too saggy you might get away with it for a while

This is where I've gotten to now: 3" coils, 3.5" leaves, 1" JKS dogleg shackles, and NO SH!+, I have a 150lbs of subwoofer equipment in the back at all times and I don't sag a bit
