Questions about putting a snorkel on my jeep

As the title says i have some questions about putting a snorkel on my jeep. It will be home made i'm not buying one. I have seen all the threads on the snorkels people have done and have some idea but my main thing is will it effect the performance of my jeep negatively in anyway or is my 4 cylinder fine with the snorkel? Also i plan on attaching it to the underside of my stock airbox. I'm really new (Like bought my first jeep 3 days ago.) at this so any help would be great.
