This actually all started out with the thought of "My left arm is getting way more tan than my right arm is... I want a sunroof!"
But then I remembered that old Pirate4x4 thread, and thought about how cool this could be.
I'm pretty sure the roof is structural, so I'd still have to strengthen the unibody. But either way, I've though about all of my options, including that one, and I've narrowed it down to these two... now I just need to decide between them.

Lol yeah, I love the way it looks too (my dream vehicle is a Ford F250 Lariat Superduty, SuperCrew Cab, short bed, supercharged turbo diesel V8).
But it doesn't allow for a removable top, nor does it give me the openness. I mean yeah, I could just make the rear portion removable, but I don't see the benefit. I'm kinda leaning towards the open one, to be honest.

So I got the stereo hooked up today. I think it's gonna look great on the black diamond plate steel I'll be making my custom dash with.

I also picked up some seat covers at the auto store until I get the racing seats I'm planning on putting in. Looks good, IMO.

I think its my bias over how sweet i think a comanche looks. Also just with the second pic you provided of the "open air" wrangler style it just looks somewhat odd.

Yeah, it does look kinda odd. I think it's just cause it's a 4-door, I think those look odd with any bodywork done to them. Picture it as a 2-door.
I'm probably gonna go with the open-air design just out of practicality (removable top).

So lately while I'm driving, I can hear this popping/clanking sound coming from the back. It comes up when I come out of a stop and when I don't shift gears at the perfect moment (i.e. the driveshaft changes speeds quickly), which makes me think it's a u-joint.
Thoughts?

now that you say that a two door would look much better. I might do it a little differently then the original picture you posted of the removable top but it would deff look good. Go for it!

i say leave it so it looks like a cab. you will have more support and you can always chop more off later. plus i am willing to bet the guy in that first pick saved the part of the roof he cut off and has plans for a possible hard top come winter...

btw that jeep is bad@$$ i wonder whos it is

Well his is an 8-point cage, and mine is only going to be a 6 point cage (4 door vs 2 door), and I'm going to be tying it into the unibody a bit differently, but other than that it won't be too much different. What would you do differently?

I think what I'm gonna do is do the open-air design, then take some sheet steel and angle iron and make it look cab-ish. Best of both worlds.

The cab one is the project of some guy on here, and the completely open one belongs to somebody on Pirate 4x4.
