Problems with transfer case!!
When i start up my stock 93 cherokee, a knocking sounds starts and it sounds like its coming from my transfer case, and when i start to drive it seems that it goes away. And also when in four high or four low, and im going up a hill, i feel a pretty strong knocking in the floor boards almost like right beneath my feet. Any ideas to what my problems could be??

Start with inspecting the motor mounts and the transmission mount at the cross member. Bad bushings in the T-case shifter mechanism can also cause vibrations or thumping. Also check the torque on the flex plate bolts and check the flex plate for cracks.

the flex plate is the plate in between the engine and transmission correct? cuz if it is, i have oil leaking at that spot so that may be it.

Weird that it happens just as you start it up while it's in park. Or is it a 5 speed? Sounds like there's something loose. Does it increase/decrease with engine speed as you rev it? Try to take a video of the sound, possibly from underneath your jeep as someone else starts it up. Try to create the noise and see if there are any other patterns or things that seem related.
The description when in 4hi/4lo makes it sound like a tranny mount or something similar, but why would that be shifting upon initial startup? Good luck! Keep us informed on your progress.

as soon as i put any throttle into it, it goes completely away. what me and my dad were thinking is that the chain in the transfer case could be loose and the chain could be slipping.

The chain doesn't move till the jeep moves.

Crawl under it. I just replaced the transmission mount and flipped my exhaust hanger from front to back due to wear. That eliminated that clunking. In my case, it was the front exhaust pipe channeling out a groove on the tranfer case cross member. Good luck. That clunk was a mutha f****

X2 on that. My transmission mount was worn out and caused my exhaust to hit on my crossmember and it made a thumping sound at start up and sometimes at idle. If there's not a good amount of space between the exhaust and crossmember I'd bet on that.

i know this might sound outa place but you could try checking the slip yoke in your front ds mine had worn real bad and it would knock bad during normal driving and 4wd

very true about the chain, its just weird how it clicks when only in idle. And the thumping when im off roading in 4 wheeel drive while im going up the hills doesnt feel like the transfer case as much as it feels like the front differential
