PROBLEM SOLVED - interesting fix!!!!!!!

My post about 2 weeks ago (buried mile deep on here) "unknown problem, no solution" has finally been addressed and solved. If you can find the topic, you can see all the $300+ I spent on sensors and fuel pumps to address a hesitating and surging problem on a '95 chero inline six.

When I overhauled the engine, I installed an aftermarket camshaft. When I went farting around in the distributor today, i noticed that at 1st cylinder TDC, the rotor was about 3/8 of an inch off center from the contact in the dist. cap for cyl. no. 1. Looking at a crucial website on the net http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2007/11/28/hmx-countdown-to-ignition-indexing-the-distributor , I was able to determine that the aftermarket cam is a little off in the timing of the distributor. Since the dist. is non-adjustable in timing from the factory, I had to take a hacksaw to the mounting bracket to make it so that I could turn it 15 degrees counterclockwise to center the rotor. NO MORE RUNNING PROBLEMS!!

In conclusion, aftermarket camshafts WILL mess up the preset factory timing, so you'll have to readjust it yourself. After a massive headache and $300+ in throwing parts at it, I was shocked that I fixed it by taking a hacksaw to the distributor mount. I learned that in an electro-mechanical distributor, the rotor MUST be centered on the contacts in the cap so that the engine computer can have room to advance/retard timing within the rotor contact

one thing is for sure, at 214000 miles, all those new sensors and fuel pump should keep my check engine light off and my wallet in my pocket for at least 60000 more miles... i hope!
